If you are a Pet lover, especially owing a dog, then you must love to watch your dog enjoy its favorite meal. But When it comes to German Shepherd dogs, Your happiness is not so long as often german shepherd dogs stop eating their food if the same food is given consistently.
Usually, German shepherd Dogs are not like other Dogs, They are moody & prefer to taste different varieties of Food over a certain period of time.
This is what exactly I felt when my GSD dog stops eating even its favorite pedigree & food were given.
Being a proud dog owner of my baby, I set & scheduled the diet. At the initial time, My Dog Loved to eat & enjoy its meal, I was delighted to see that my choices of food were being accepted by my Dog, & I continued it. But after 10-12 days, My Dog, Jemmy, Suddenly stops eating.
So being concerned about a healthy diet for my dog I consulted with a certified dietician & drafted the list of food which suppose to be given to My Dog, Jemmy. Here’s the list:
- Of course Pedigree Especially for a German Shepherd Dog, He loves to eat Royal Canin Brand Pedigree but I tried others as well.
- Indian cottage cheese
- Boiled White Egg ( No Yolk)
- No Milk only fermented product i.e. Curd, Milk sometimes prefers skimmed milk.
- No Gluten contains food, i.e Bread, Wheat, Cereals, etc
- No Sugar or preservative drinks & artificial Beverages
- Raw Vegetables, GSD love to eat Raw veggies.

So, with here’re the diet which I suppose to give my Dog as per the weight. At the initial start, he loved to eat Eggs, Cottage Cheese, and Raw Vegetables along with his favorite pedigree, but as soon as days passed, he stopped eating those things & My Dog Preferred to stay hungry for hours, & that was the big challenge for me to identify the varieties in the diet while maintaining the essential nutrients without compromising it.
So, I am sharing exactly what I have tried & it really works. I tried different food like roasted chickpeas powder in a liquid form, he started loving it for a certain period of time but again he discarded it.
Later, I came to know that, they are like us, if we can get bored by eating the same monotonous food every day, they can also be. So again I created a Diet chart comprised of the food suggested by my Dietician.
Here’s the perfect solution & process I have found for my dog, You can also try this for your adorable pets.
Suitable dog food for german shepherd which usually i try while feeding him:
Give them a variety of tastes once a week with these add-ons:
- Chicken Gravy. They really love the chicken gravy, & believe me, if you mix it with his pedigree, other gluten-free food which they don’t like to eat, once it mixes with & mashes it up with gravy, they will love to eat without compromising the nutrients.
- Roasted Chickpeas Powder. Yet another awesome food I found which is actually liked by German shepherd dogs, this is also my favorite, being a gym guy, it was easy for me to identify the best-suited food for my Dog as well. This food enriches with fiber, calcium, & protein, etc. So, here you can mix that powder with Pedigree or other food, & believe me, once it is mixed with it, they will surely love the food. But again, this is not something that we can give continuously, the Idea is to shuffle this food & keep giving them.
- Cottage Cheese. This is prepared with milk & the process is simple, you can easily find the way of preparation on youtube. This is softened & enriched with a good amount of protein & calcium. You can give them 50-70gm to your Dog & mix it with pedigree or other food which you usually give to your dog.
- Cucumber. Cucumber is the most known thing which is loved by German Shepherds, they can drop almost everything for eating it. If you have a German shepherd & possess a small place of land, you must have to grow cucumber for your Dog so that your Dog can freely wander in the field & enjoy the cakes.
- Sprouts. Again, as I am a Fitness Freak, it’s easier for me to identify the best nutritive diet for my Dog as well, I tried Sprouts, & my Dogs really like them. So Next time, if you are having sprouts for yourself, just add this stuff to your Dog Diet as well, he will love it & it enrich you with everything you need.
You can shuffle the above diet as per your comfort to avoid boredom
